Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood.
When you eat, your body converts any calories that you don't need to use right away into triglycerides. Triglycerides are stored in your fat cells. Later on, the hormones release triglycerides for energy between meals.
If you eat more calories than you regularly burn, especially foods high in carbohydrates, you may have high triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia).
