Tests and procedures used to diagnose pancreatitis include:
▪︎ Blood tests to detect elevated levels of pancreatic enzymes, white blood cell counts, kidney function and liver enzymes.
▪︎ Abdominal ultrasound to detect gallstones and pancreatitis.
▪︎ Computed tomography to detect gallstones and assess the degree of pancreatitis.
▪︎ MRI to detect abnormalities of the gallbladder, pancreas and their ducts.
▪︎ Ultrasound endoscopy to detect inflammation or blockage in the pancreatic duct or gallbladder duct.
▪︎ Stool analysis in cases of chronic pancreatitis to measure levels of fats that could suggest that your digestive system is not absorbing enough nutrients.
